Screens (2006) | Image Gallery

A series of seven ink-jet prints. Exhibited at Goldsmiths College, London, UK.

Screens combines appropriated stills from web-based videos with original photographs. Ghostly, pixilated bodies are fused with environments rendered in crisp detail. Merging high- and low-resolution, found and created, imagery, this series explores the boundary between two media, often thought of as being incompatible, and between the ‘low’ art of web-video and the ‘high’ art of the gallery setting.

Diptychs (2006) | Image Gallery

A series of five paired ink-jet prints from 35mm negatives. Each pair is mounted and framed together. Exhibited at Goldsmiths College, London, UK.

Diptychs pairs images derived from museum displays with images from the outdoors. Their juxtapositions are meant to hint at thematic and formal congruencies, but the task of interpretation is left open for the viewer.

Broken (2006) | Image Gallery

A series of five framed ink-jet prints. Exhibited at Goldsmiths College, London, UK.

Broken appropriates broken image icons from the web and exhibits them in a gallery setting. Shown as part of a group photography exhibition, these pieces were surrounded by the ‘fully present’ works of other artists and, in contrast, convey absence, as if these images failed to load. Broken brings the space and visual language of the Internet into the white cube, asking viewers to contemplate the aesthetic of a genre of icons.

Untitled (the Space Between) (2006) | Image Gallery

A series of 11 ink-jet prints from 35mm negatives. Exhibited at Goldsmiths College, London, UK.

Untitled (the Space Between) marks a return in my practice to a form of documentary/travel photography. Rather than capturing definitive or overt moments, this project makes an effort to preserve interstitial spaces in our daily geographies.

Dialog/Analog (Your Wish Is My Demand) (2005) | Image Gallery

A series of five diptychs. Exhibited at Brown University, Providence, RI.

Dialog/Analog (Your Wish Is My Demand) investigates the gap between an individual’s corporeal self-image and its synthetic simulacra. The project imagines a conversation between a self-percept and the ‘ideal’ bodies encountered in consumer culture.

Mythology (2005) | Image Gallery

A series of five ink-jet prints from 35mm negatives. Exhibited at Brown University, Providence, RI.

Mythology takes a minimal, abstract and theatrical approach to the idea of mythological storytelling. Using long exposures, multiple light sources and projected etched slides, these self-portraits imbue light with a kind of physicality and narrative potential.
